Summary: |
Alka is an assassin for the Clan of the Sword. She's on a journey to find the woman Jin Valel, who killed her master Hon. Jin is demon-like woman who controls the Energy of Chaos and kills without feeling - not unlike how Alka has learned to kill in her work as an assassin. On her journey, Alka encounters three strange women, each great warriors in their own right, and grapples with her slain master's wish that she leave the life of an assassin behind. |

This is my first attempt at a review.
This anime starts out heavy on the fan service. The anime is beautifully drawn and animated, if you ignore all the boob physics. But hey, it's anime, who the hell is surprised by that? If I stopped watching watching anime for all the fan service, the list would get very short. And being a guy, I don't really object.
But hang in there. The story is worth it. Some are saying that the main character, Aruka is boring and has no character. She is an assassin trained to be emotionless. Not the first stoic character ever to show up in an anime. It is how we are introduced to her character. However, one of the main themes of the anime is about this and how she struggles to recover her humanity.
They introduce some pretty broad story ideas as well. I like this anime because there are a lot of ideas going on with not a lot of excessive exposition or narration. Some anime are terrible for this. Sometimes it's more interesting to let the viewer speculate and draw their own conclusions. There are a lot of questions raised as the story proceeds, some of which are answered by the end.
One con about this anime is the killing off of characters. I hate it when a character I like gets killed off. It' makes for great dramatic effect but damn! Why'd they go and do that!
Also, almost all the lead characters are female with strong personalities. To me they seemed unique and well defined. It's hard to explain why I liked this anime but I did like it a lot. Unless you watch the whole season and make an informed decision for yourself, you really didn't give it a chance. As for me, I am hoping for another season.
