Though off to a slow start, I guess the purpose is to allow the viewers to know the main characters very well. If you find the gags to be repetitive and even stupid, don't give up just yet. You'll be happy you didn't when the first 'serious' arc comes in. This anime has some really funny episodes but the plot gets heavier with each turn and so do the action scenes. The characters are interesting and well-developed- protagonists and antagonists alike. My cosplay-loving persona says these characters are the most fashionable ones in the world of anime lol. Moving on, it's true when they say that when you're up there, there's nowhere else to go but down. Sadly, after the uber awesome Varia arc, the slow but steady downfall began. The power ups, the fight scenes, the dialogues, everything just turned ridiculous. Good thing they decided to end it there.
