From this one episode I felt compelled to say something of it. That is, as the title says, it was surely not what I was expecting.

A large portion of the episode - in the beginning - tells the background story of the main female character, Kotoura-san, and it is in all ways absolutely tragic. Never before have I been brought to tears within 10 minutes of a very first episode! Her background, having the ability to "read minds" is such a sad story. Having broken all friendships she tries to have, and also having been the catalyst in her parents divorce - which even lead to her mother disowning her - It near forced her to become "emotionless" and "indifferent" to the world and others around her, when she actually was hurting and was "powerless" do do anything about it.

However, that is when a massive twist occurs. When transferring schools, she meets someone that "accepts" her ability and treats her as a friend! Truly, it is moving and very heartwarming to watch :)

Otherwise, however, the animation quality is very good. The Color contrast as well, from the tragic first half to the "twist", which leads into the second half of the episode - was extremely well done. The dark, gloomy, depressing colors which literally "shatter" when she meets this person in her new school. Brilliantly done! Sound and voice acting are also well done.

When it comes down to it, I will say that this anime bares a LOT of potential to be one of my favorites. I can see it happening ^^ Looking forward to the rest.
