A Seinen Magical Girls

Ever wondered what happens if the Magical Girls genre is targeted to younger adults (Seinen). This anime is a perfect example.

This is what Evangelion should have been. This anime, unlike Evangelion, doesn't rely on stupid symbolism, angst and other mind torture stuff to make it feel deep and complex. The story is very simple, the characters emotions are realistic and are SHOWN realistically, so no stupid "inside-the-protagonist-mind" episode or other crap like that.

The direction is excellent. From the episode 1 you'll understand it's going to be a dark stork because of the artwork and the coloring. You'll realize that something is wrong : The girl aren't destined to become Magical Girl but MUST CHOOSE to become ones and for that they must MAKE A WISH. Everything look simple right? In fact the story goes deeper into that and develops around these conditions.

The animation is great, the fighting scene aren't lazy static images. The art is another story, I personally don't find it astonishing but it does the work.

If you can imagine Yuri on Ice! meets Holmes of Kyoto, then this is it. Slow paced but gripping. Boy-Love but not distasteful...
