Summary: At first glance, Nura Rikuo seems like nothing more than a normal middle-schooler. In actual fact, he is grandson of Nurarihyon, master of a youkai clan. Having only recently resolved the hostilities between the Nura Clan and the Shikoku Yokai, Rikuo finds no rest as an ancient enemy of the Nura Clan, Haguromo-Gitsune, resurfaces. After 400 years of inactivity, Haguromo-Gitsune suddenly sweeps through Kyoto with overwhelming power.

I was skeptical at first, what with the youkais and the hair (rikuo's and his father's and grandfather's), since I am biased when it comes to the hero's looks (i.e.: Tamahome, Mamoru Chiba, Usui Takumi, and so on and so forth. ;-p), but for once, I set aside my romantic views and watched it just out of curiosity (coz, I have to admit, that hair got me curious, hehe). For the first time in my anime-watching life, I never cared who he ends up with! What I cared about was will he, or will he not, surpass the greatness of his father and grandfather! It's a very refreshing anime for someone like me who only cared about romcoms and shinigamis and pretty soldiers in sailor suits. Rikuo's character is interesting to watch: one would never want to avert his/her eyes from his development, and one would find him/herself cheering for him, especially when everyone in his grandfather's council of youkais belittle him and judge him just because he's carrying only one-fourth of his grandpa's blood. In the course of the story, one would get excited, anticipating another surprising success coming from the young master, and in the end, Rikuo would have gotten your hearts and trust, just as he did with the older generations of Nurarihyon's Hachijuuhakki Yako.
