Let me first start by saying that this is an Anime adaption of the light novel Sword Art Online by Kawahara Reki, In particular this series in based on his first 2 volumes Sword art online Aincrad 1 & 2. (If having seen this anime you would like to read the novels you can find them translated to English here - http://www.vn-meido.com/k1/index.php?topic=1198.0 to download note: you will need Adobe PDF, or find them on http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Sword_Art_Online to read online.)
At this time I believe that Episode 14 will likely be the last episode unless they decide to go further than the first two novels.
SAO is based within a VRMMORPG (Virtual reality mass multiplayer online role playing game) world called Aincrad created by the character “Kayaba Akihiko” with the intent of crafting a “New reality”, SAO also serves as a death game for the 10,000 players who joined the game as they cannot log out until all the game has been beaten further more death of their avatar “in game” will also mean their death “in real life”
The story is told from “Kirito’s” point of view and shows his journey toward beating the game and winning the freedom of all those trapped within. (Those who have read the novel already may be puzzled by the order of event in the anime, for the Anime everything is being shown in chronological order)
In short SAO is a very good adaption of the Light novels following the story almost to the letter.
The main highlights of SAO are the relationships that form between the characters trapped within the death game.
If you have watched and Enjoyed SAO you may also like .hack which is another anime based within a VRMMO setting although the story of .Hack proceeds at a much slower pace than SAO
