To me this anime was a nice thing for the action/drama anime. You have a main character who was likeable and then they continued adding characters without making you feel overloaded with them. Animation was great and very entertaining.

Now there are a few reasons why I don't think this is a 5 star anime.
1. The main character is made out to be the loner and strong willed, but he joins a guild and at times never feels like the loner. He never really went to a boss battle by himself, that we know of, and he just never felt like such a loner than he made himself out to be.
2. The story is great and love the concept, but the switching to games to me felt both rushed and weird. SAO had to clear 100 stages and yet it only got 14 episodes of it, and then you add a new game that seemed it just flew by and never really developed that world. SAO had so much to offer and I felt in that regard it came up short.
3. Some things were never explained as with typical anime. What exactly happened to Kayaba, how did Kirito turn into that huge beast if he only really knew illusion magic, and btw where the hell is Kirito's parents to stop him from playing the game again.

To me this anime had so much potential, and maybe it still does since it left it open in the sense you can continue doing more with it (though there really isn't a major adversary). I would love to see OVAs that shows more boss battles or something else done with this. Otherwise great anime and I would tell any fan of anime to give it a watch.
