Paradigm City is a place without a past. 40 years ago, something happened that wiped the memories of everyone in it. Unfortunately, the people of Paradigm City were very busy before then, making Megadueses(giant robots) and monsters. People who were born after the memory wipe are gaining/recovering memories of the past and using them to build newer threats. Roger Smith keeps Paradigm City safe with the help of The Big O (a faithful giant robot), his butler Norman and the android Dorothy, Roger keeps Paradigm City safe. As problems mount and more memories surface, Roger's past and Paradigm's future begin to become suspect... |

The Big O is a mecha anime with a refreshing change of pace from the "gundam syndrome" that was going around when it came out. It's more of a mystery / detective anime with giant robots thrown in for conflict resolution.
The story is downright amazing, it is definitely one of the best anime stories I have ever seen. The world and the characters all have quite a bit of depth to them and I thought the ending was well done.
The dialogue is great, the character interactions are very well done. Another point in the anime's favor is that the English VAs are quite good, so I highly recommend the anime whether the version you find is subbed or dubbed.
The animation is quite good and still holds up against some of the top animes of today.
Overall, this anime is easily one of the best ever made, at least in my opinion, and I don't think you can go wrong by downloading and watching it.

If you can imagine Yuri on Ice! meets Holmes of Kyoto, then this is it. Slow paced but gripping. Boy-Love but not distasteful...
