This is a really sweet series that can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike. Enough people have written glowing reviews for this show but it really deserves them, it is an excellent slice- of life anime. The premise is easy to understand, and establishes a strong emotional base for the story to build on. The resolution of some of the sub plots is inconclusive, just like in real life, although this was a little frustrating at times. The art design is quite simple, reminiscent of a picture book. The clean lines are quite expressive, especially in the design of the characters. I love the realistic portrayal of children, and the honest way the series deals with the way the world impacts on them. The children themselves are fully fleshed out characters who can occasionally be naughty, and are not overly refined and respectful, as they can be in other shows. I can understand why the Director finished the series where he did, as the relationship between Daikichi and Rin didn't really have anywhere else to go. If you have children or care for children, this series will ring true on so many levels, and leaves you feeling better about yourself at the end. Lovely, without being sickeningly sweet, this is one of the best anime series I've seen in a while.
