As a major fan of the sci-fi genre, I have seen numerous interpretations on what an inhabited Mars could look like. This one is very by the numbers, nothing much that stands out from any earlier version. Its very somber, has a classic rich-poor divide, and some cute robot servants that some people treat like trash. Though the focus isn´t on the world itself but on the main characters quest for vengeance. Although for a show featuring gladiators the violence is suprisingly subdued. And I don´t mean that in a good way. I wasn´t expecting torture porn of any kind, but a little more intensity in the fights would have made wonders for the suspense. As it is, it´s barely exciting at all. Don´t get me wrong, people die, get shot and are stabbed but we never see any blood what so ever. Some people even die off screen after a fight which makes me so mad, since then it confuses the viewer whether the person actually died or not, and you have to wait until it is confirmed later on in dialouge. That is NOT good storytelling. The ending was also complete bullshit if you weighed it against everything that had happened in the show so far. That´s what frustrates me with this show, it could have been so much better. But then again, it could also have been so much worse so that is why I gave it an average. (show less)
