In the future of the earth, genetic manipulation and refinement has replaced evolution and created a society where women outnumber men by a ratio of nine to one. Another anime that mixes computer graphics with modern anime drawing styles.
Overall, this series was pretty good but it isn't a mind boggling roller-coaster ride. The main theme of the series has to do with DNA manipulation and genetic engineering, so if you like those topics then this will be somewhat provocative, but if you are a biology major you might roll your eyes a few times. In the span of 13 episodes the viewer gets a decent story and fortunately there is enough closure that it doesn't feel like the series abruptly ends. There are a few Eva-esque type mysteries that are not fully uncovered, which is expected given that the series is half as long as Eva or Rahxephon. Also, I had mixed feelings about the soundtrack because I usually like electronic music or instrumental stuff to complement space scenes, but this series really loves to use the guitar for those moments. Its only 13 episodes so if you like SciFi stuff you might as well watch this show, especially if you liked Diebuster or other related shows. (show less)

I watched this about a year ago, and I own it now as well. It has a very different story then I expected from previews and reading the intro. But they really had a interesting way to explain the story. The art work is very good for it's time. I enjoy watching every minute.

I really enjoyed Geneshaft because of it's ideas of how the future was and so much that I enjoyed it that I even downloaded the entire series.
Gene shaft only may have 13 episode but it's worth it^^
Mika [main character] Is a crazy, but believable kinda character. She may be different but she has that kinda friend ship with people to change them and really see behind the fog.
I really recommend u try and make an effort to see just a few eps of these anime.
