saiyuki was one of the first manga i ever read, and one of the first anime i watched! its been around a while, as the author keeps churning it out, but by no means is it made boring by that, because the more you watch of it, the more you learn of all the characters, and their back stroies.

and there is a LOT of backstory! at first glance, it looks just like an action with a couple of pretty and stupidly strong guys, but their back stories are all set out and no one as as simple as they first look.
to top it off, the current four all interacted hundreds of years ago, and their past lives pave the way to much of the things that happen in the plot- not that they're at all aware of it.
interestingly enough, goku, one of the characters will draw you in to the total void in his memories that he has and how that fits so amazingly into it.
so, basically, its a mix of amazing character development thta you find in shoujo, and the graphic action you find in seinen. not to mention its damn funny, and full of shipping possiblities, if you're so inclined. takes a while to get used to the art style though. (show less)
