The story of "love, magic, and battles" revolves around Akuto Sai, a boy who aims to become part of his country's highest order of magicians and contribute to society. On the day he is admitted into the Constant Magical Academy, his aptitude test predicts the following: "Future Occupation … Devil King." Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou started good but the second half was to serious.
The idea behind the story is original but I think the story could use some changes. I wouldn't have mind if there wasn't as much fighting and the main character wasn't so powerful. More school life, less big fights.
The conversations were entertaining because of the different types of (cliché) characters. I think some of the characters should even have gotten a little more screen time.
The animation is what I would have expected from a recent anime.
I got my hopes up to high by watching the first half of this series. Unfortunatly the second half wasn't as good. I even hated the episode in between.

If you can imagine Yuri on Ice! meets Holmes of Kyoto, then this is it. Slow paced but gripping. Boy-Love but not distasteful...
