Kazuma Kannagi was considered useless within his family because he could not use Enjutsu, the power to control flames. When he was defeated by Ayano Kannagi, one of his relatives, in a bout to decide who the wielder of Enraiha, a sword that was wielded by the family heir, he was banished from the family. Four years later, he returns, now a master of Fuujutsu, the power to control wind, with a new name: Kazuma Yagami. Soon after his return, he is reunited with Ayano and his younger brother, Ren, who is also gifted in Enjutsu. Soon, however, Kannagi family members are killed and the murder weapon is revealed to be Fuujutsu. Now Kazuma has to fight his family to prove that he is not the murderer.
This anime pulls off the extremely powerful anti-hero main character very well. the combat is well animated and even though the main character is obviously more powerful than his opponents they don't make it seem too one sided. The story is great and manages to catch the audience fairly easily. The characters are well developed and the main character Kazuma has a well flushed out back story. All in all for an anime of this size it is well worth the watch.
What brought me to watch this anime was a screenshot of a fan-art that I found on Google pictures. The screenshot looked cool, so I decided to give the anime a try, I already thought I'd like it, since I like anime that have a beginning AND an end (unlike the others that start and go ON and ON forever). It turned out I fell in love with it.

There were so many unusual things about this anime and I love unusual things. First of all, the protagonist is uber-strong from the very start. This is quite weird for a series, since the character needs to develop and gain new powers. I liked that twist, it wasn't used much and it made a nice surprise. Another unusual thing: the protagonist may be good, but he is not an angel who has fallen from the sky. If you know the phrase money, sex, drugs, erase the word drugs and that's the personality of the protagonist. That only changes in the final few episodes. The resident girl is a classic anime main girl, she gets angry easily, she likes the boy and she is always with a sword in her hand (literally in this case), ready to kill off any competitors. She also doesn't acknowledge her true feelings, like a classic girl. The tag-along kid is also a classic, though in this case he more or less helps in battles, and he even gets a little plotline himself.
The animation was artistically awesome, with great details on the characters and even though the lead girl's hair is a little chunky, I still like it.
Well the music was also awesome, and I have nothing further to say on that issue.
This anime also has it's good share of humor like when (I won't tell) or when (I won't tell). The scenes that are especially funny are the scenes of the fights between the protagonist and the lead girl.
Overall, this anime touched me, it was really good, and the fact that it has only 24 episodes makes it even more valuable. It also casued a little inferiority complex since Kazuma is everything I wanna be (tall, strong, uses wind magic) I'm just a couch potato (I could work on the strong but I would be a strong, non-magical, short couch potato.
One final thing: I was reading the ANN reviews and they make this anime sound like total junk except one or two parts. My advice is, don't judge something based only on reviews, watch it yourself and then judge. (show less)

A great watch. It reminds me a bit about shana but the sotry is tootally different.
The main character is from the beginning one of the strongest persons which is unusual for developing series.
The story is about him, his love in the present and the fight against his past.
Action and ongoing story is interrupted be a few very fitting extremely funny episodes.
All in all its an anime which is a must have seen and a must have because you will watch it more then once.
It had a typical boy meets girl theme at the start but the story was awesome and I love how it progressed! It's just too bad they didn't make a 2nd season for it. This anime is quite funny, exciting, and umm funny xD. Anyway you guys have to try this and I hope you enjoy it :D
A really wonderful anime, i enjoyed watching it. It does not have a very complicated plot, it's mainly just entertainment and some cool fights to go with it.
Unfortunately they cold have made this anime a really great series but seams it ain't on any priority list and will remain not that known. Season 2 is no were 2 be seen also.
I enjoyed this series, from start to finish it kept me in my seat, and i enjoyed it. the dialogue could have been lightly better picked, the voice actors were perfectly chosen. some of the episodes could have had bits taken out that weren't necessarily relevant to the "mood" of the episode, but the humor of those parts made them acceptable. I can only find one thing wrong, a flame mage turning wind mage...tho thats what this entire anime is about, why doesn't he use his contractee?
