Story: 9/10

At first glance, King of Thorn looks like your typical horror movie; Evil monsters fighting a varied cast, everyone but one or two people dying, etc etc.

But if you look a bit deeper, you'll see the detailed backstory. The many twists and turns, each revealing just a little of the big picture, leaving you guessing. And just when you think its all over; it takes one last jump to surprise you again.

Animation: 9/10

The animation is your typical modern style, leaning towards a more realistic style if anything. Intricate details make every moment visually stunning.

Sound: 8/10

The sound wasn't anything new or spectacular, but each piece fit perfectly with the scene, enriching the experience.

The voice acting was also very good, each voice fitting in with the character.

Characters: 7/10

A motherly figure, a young boy, a protector, the man that knows more than meets the eye, and the girl stuck in the middle of it all.

The cast had a good amount of backstory; Not enough to bog down the rest but enough to give you more understanding about them and their motives.

That said, I do feel that the creators tried too hard to include a character from each nationality; One from Africa, one from America, one from England, One from France... It was almost as if they had a quota to fill in that regard.

Overall: 9/10

In the end, it was a very enjoyable movie. A great story, interesting characters, and an ending that ties up all the loose ends. (show less)

If you really like the fairy tale of 'Sleeping Beauty', this movie is for you. As I am indifferent when it comes to fairy tales, that aspect really didn't do much for me. I did feel the movie was unnecessarily long and could have been condensed. However, the greatest letdown for me was the flip-flopping of animation techniques throughout the movie. All of the action scenes are done using 3d software, while the less difficult scenes are hand drawn. I would have preferred the full movie to be either or. All in all, it was a decent movie. Probably wouldn't watch it again though. =) (show less)
