Teenagers (May contain bloody violence, bad language, nudity)
Vintage:

Status:
Completed
Summary:
Read or Die takes place in an alternate world where some people have abilities such as the paper masters whom can create many objects and perform tasks with paper. They can even cut steel with paper
This anime seemed good at the start, disregarding the obvious errors in physics, it was kind of cool to see them manipulating paper to do things. Got a wide array of characters and development of them. Some nice plot twists. The only things that really irked me were some of the touchy-feely moments that did not need to be there (eyerolls ensued galore) and most especially Anita... that little screaming and crying brat. I wanted to slap her so many times.

....slice of life would describe best the first episodes, and not knowing the rest one might call the whole of the series such, easy going, calm, picturesque even. However, as calmly and smoothly the events unfold, as tempestuous the nature of things to follow. Slight hints of what is to come do appear, however none make sens till after the maelstrom is unleashed.
Trough all of this, three sisters, a friend, and fore unlikely companions take down the worlds' first and most powerful nation, the British Empire.

The rhythm never ceases to amaze, now and then alert, sometimes calm(testing the viewers' patience even), but often up beat, it keeps u wanting to see more.
All of these make this series an excellent one...:D (show less)
This one is a pretty old series but it still is very good. Strangely enough the start and the end were the best parts, the middle got me a bit bored. Story start off only from the middle, the first part of the series is introducing the characters (like all series should do).
The story is about how 3 "sisters" (not nuns) are assigned to protect some one and that some one get's into a lot of trouble, but those initial adventures are only the star of an even bigger picture. This is were the series starts showing it's true colors and gets even better (read more)

All in all i like this series and i think you won't be sorry if you look at it. (show less)
To start you will HAVE to watch the OVA. It sets the scene for the last 2/3rds of the series. The action scenes are great and there are moments that leave you guessing what is going to happen next. The dialogue can be unimpressive at times, but as you get into the meat of the plot you quickly learn that it is essential to the idiosynchrosies of the characters.
A lot of reviews on here are always 5 star and not very critical. So I decided to review this anime as it was not a 5 star choice of mine.
Had I seen the action scenes from ‘Read or Die’ and that been it, I may have given this series 5 stars. They were creative, well animated and something (theme wise) you don’t come across too often. I can also see how some viewers may find many of the scenes touching, and identify with character in the show.
However, in retrospect, the series drags. I felt slightly too much time is spent trying to (read more)

However, in retrospect, the series drags. I felt slightly too much time is spent trying to build viewer-to-character relationship, and the viewer forgets about the interesting battle they’ve just seen. Also, there is too much going on in this series in my opinion. There is a historical aspect, science fiction, romance (although not so much), fantasy, comedy, adventure, mystery, psychological, action, ect. For example, Early in the series I was laughing out at a certain character situation, and since it was early in the series I expected more laughs throughout. However that was the only scene I found humorous throughout the series….
As a quick summary. The series seems to have been written to make ‘reading books’ seem interesting and cool to a younger audience. I am not discouraging watching the series, however it’s a bit predictable and has a lot going on. (show less)
R.O.D. has a great storyline and develops the characters at a well pace. It's recommended that you should watch the OVAs first. Its still a good anime regardless. This show is one of my personal favorites.
This is simply one of best story lines. It has wonderful character development, with the right amounts of mystery and human interest. As the story developes you will find yourself more draw into it and looking for more.
I recommend watching the First 3 OVA's called Read or Die before watching the TV series, this is pretty much a sequel to those OVA's. This is an amazing anime, great story, great character developement, animation is awesome, the idea is great. I couldn't stop watching this til it was over. One of my top 5 favorites ever. 5stars
