Summary:
Two brothers lose their mother to an incurable disease. With the power of "alchemy", they use taboo knowledge to resurrect her. The process fails, and as a toll for using this type of alchemy, the older brother, Edward Elric loses his left leg while the younger brother, Alphonse Elric loses his entire body. To save his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm and is able to affix his brother's soul to a suit of armor. With the help of a family friend, Edward receives metal limbs - "automail" - to replace his lost ones. With that, Edward vows to search for the Philosopher's Stone to return the brothers to their original bodies, even if it means becoming a "State Alchemist", one who uses his/her alchemy for the military.
Seriously, this show is amazing. The story is very well thought out and extremely entertaining. I never read the manga, but loved the first version of the anime. Let me tell you, Brotherhood is MUCH better. I believe the first anime had more action (from what I remember), but this one's story is much, much, better. The story is really what makes this show shine.
The fighting scenes are really great. The animation is definitely on par with Naruto and Bleach (imo best animated fight scenes). The fighting is not drawn out for too long either. You won't be seeing a fight last for 10 episodes. They are fairly quick, but done extremely well.
The characters are very likable. They manage to connect the viewer with each character without going into insane amounts of detail of their past.
If you watched the first one, and feel you don't need to watch this one... YOU ARE WRONG! The beginning is kind of similar but it switches up later. You will also find a few little surprises in this version (unless you read the manga). This show is a must watch in my opinion.
